Confirmed: Patch 3.0 Will Increase 60-70 Leveling Speed

Confirmed: Patch 3.0 Will Increase 60-70 Leveling Speed

Tigole has confirmed that content patch, known as 3.0, which will hit live servers before Wrath of the Lich King, will also include a decrease in XP to level from 60 to 70.

Here's a reminder of what else we'll see in 3.0 (which is yet to hit the Public Test Realms, so might still be some time off):

Blizzard Quote: (Source) With the release of Wrath of the Lich King approaching, we wanted to provide you with some important information. In preparation for the expansion, we will be issuing a new content patch in the coming weeks. Much like the patch made available shortly before The Burning Crusade's release, this content patch is designed to bridge current game content with that of the expansion and will contain some exciting changes and additions.

We have outlined some of the larger features scheduled to release with the patch below:

New class spells and talents
Stormwind Harbor
Barbershops in capital cities
Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades
Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles
Guild calendar
Hunter pet skill revamp
New profession: Inscription

As mentioned above, this is not a comprehensive list, just some of the major highlights. We’ll post the full patch notes as soon as they’re available. Regarding Inscription, please note that all Burning Crusade players will be able to select Inscription as one of their two professions and level up to a skill level of 375 with it. Upon the release of Wrath of the Lich King, players who purchase and install the expansion will be able to continue leveling in Inscription and the other professions beyond 375.

Blizzard plan to remove the ability to cast lower rank spell
Posted by wolfgrim on Sunday, August 17 @ 12:13:27 PDT
Blocks Blizzard plans on removing lower ranked spells - here is a post from the fourms:

We've been very forthcoming with the truth. Let's look at it from this angle. Downranking added a lot of extra considerations to design and balance. When people downrank, it changes the complexities of different encounters and how those complexities play into the design. We don't want to penalize people using low ranked spells because this doesn't quite address the issue of downranking either. So what we're doing instead is finding a consistent cost of mana across the board and making it so that when you rank up, you get more benefit out of that higher ranked spell. The cost should remain largely consistent as you go along.

What Zarhym has said and what Wryxian has said are not at odds with each other. One is simply saying "this wasn't intended" the other was saying "if you're going to do it, this is the strategy people are using" and highlighting someone elses' post. We are not advocating downranking, but we are now making it a thing of the past.

See forums post, under information, for more details.

Podcast Highlights
Posted by Wolfgrim on Friday, June 06 @ 16:50:34 PDT
Blizzard's third BlizzCast, which was released last night is nearly an hour long, so just in case you don't have the time to listen to it, or even read the transcript, here's the juicy WoW facts picked out just for your benefit:

General

* PvP armor and Tiered armor will have completely different graphics in Lich King

* The Badge of Justice system will stay in place, but the Badges will be replaced with something new

* It's possible players will have to obtain badges from different instances/raids or tokens to go with the badges, to obtain different tiers of armor/weapons, not just select from a huge range of gear using the same tokens (which means less grinding)

* Badge vendors will be more spread out, players may also have to purchase the items from reputation vendors

* Daily quests will have more randomisation to prevent them from becoming repetative, and new ones will be available when Lich King ships

* There will be new role playing items added to the game before Lich King is released: The Mid-Summer Fire Festival has been completely revamped and will feature a dancing figure which turns you on fire too if you dance with it, characters will be able to juggle torches and there will be a robe which sets you on fire and starts you dancing

Sunwell Patch 2.4 News
Posted by wolfgrim on Thursday, December 20 @ 12:27:59 PST
Blocks eff Kaplan has reportedly given exclusive details about patch 2.4, which includes Sunwell Plateau, probably the last instance to be released before WotLK, in an article contained in Level, a Swedish magazine.

In the article, Kaplan reveals that:

* The number of daily quests will be increased from 10 to 25

* There will be two dungeons at The Sunwell, Magister's Terrace is the 5 man instance, and Sunwell Plateau is the 25 man raid

* Quests outside The Sunwell and its two dungeons will explain the history of Tempest Keep

* The Sunwell will be located on an island north of Silvermoon

* The quests and events around The Sunwell and its dungeons will bring the Burning Crusade story to a close

* A new faction, called The Shattered Sun Offensive, will be involved with the quests outside the instances

* Similar to the opening of AQ, there will be a town outside the instances that grows, depending of the number of quests that are completed

* All the drops in the 25 man raid will be better than Tier 6

* Kael'thas will be in the 5 man dungeon

* Kil'jaeden will be in the 25 man raid, and the fight will be a similar difficulty to the Illidan one

* Some bosses are only available once rep has been obtained

PTR Patch 2.3.2 notes
Posted by WolfGrim on Monday, December 03 @ 13:25:24 PST
General

* /timetest is a command that can be run to provide information on game performance. /timetest 0 turns the command off. When the command is issued, the next time a player uses a flight master to travel, certain statistics will be measured and displayed at the end of that flight. All weather effects and spawns are shutdown during the test.

* Effects triggered from being critically hit: Many abilities and talents were changed in 2.3.0 to allow them to trigger from critical strikes that occurred while the player benefitting from them was sitting.

* Quest givers with blue question marks no longer show up on the minimap.

* NPC's who you have completed a quest for will display a question mark on mouseover rather than an exclamation point.

* The bank controls for the guildmaster level of a guild is now grayed out. A guildmaster always has full access to a guild bank and this cannot be changed.

* A "Withdraw-Repair Only" button has been added to the guild bank controls. If this is set for a guild rank, then that rank cannot actually withdraw funds from the guild bank, but they can still use that daily amount of money for repairs.

* You will now automatically stand up when attacked, even if the attack doesn’t land.
