BC Date Released
Posted by WolfGrim on Thursday, November 09 @ 19:09:24 PST
Blizzard Entertainment® announced today that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the highly anticipated expansion to the world’s leading subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft, will be in stores on January 16th in North America and Europe. The expansion will be available in a similar time frame in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore as well, and availability for mainland China and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau will be announced in the near future. In addition, Blizzard today announced that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft has reached a new milestone, with 7.5 million players worldwide.

“While World of Warcraft has continued to grow rapidly along with its player population, The Burning Crusade will represent our single largest addition of new game content and new features to date,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With this expansion, we’re looking forward to offering the same level of quality that players have experienced in World of Warcraft so far, and we’ll continue balancing and play-testing up until launch to ensure that The Burning Crusade achieves that goal.”

Leveling in the Expansion
Posted by WolfGrim on Monday, November 06 @ 19:09:01 PST
Blocks We are in the process of tuning the leveling curve for the expansion. The Beta is the absolute best time for us to tune this curve. We made changes this week and we're watching things closely. Don't be surprised to see more changes over the course of the Beta. Those who participated in the original WoW Beta will remember the curve changing many times before release.

The most recent changes included:

--Lengthening the curve a bit
--Placing more emphasis on Quest Reward Experience
--Placing more emphasis on Dungeon Experience
--Placing less emphasis on grinding outdoor creatures while not on a quest (sorry to Cartman and the South Park kids killing their 1,232,232 fel boars)

Something that's *very* important to note:

Three entire zones are not open in the Beta -- Blade's Edge Mountains, Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley. These will be full of quests. The lack of these zones is undoubtedly going to skew feedback until we open them.

Ultimate Goal:

An experience curve that does not require "grinding" outdoor mobs. So long as you are always questing through your leveling experience, we've achieved our goal. If you ever need to "stop" and kill creatures to open up quests, then we have more tuning to do. We will not require people to go into the Dungeons. HOWEVER, dungeon exp will be very rewarding for those who choose to attempt the added challenge.

Also, Terokkar Forest is undergoing a Quest Review and the Bone Wastes is getting redone. We'll be adding a host of new quests to the Bone Wastes as well.

Changes In How Spells Work
Posted by WolfGrim on Tuesday, October 24 @ 15:21:20 PDT
In the Burning Crusade, we’ve decided to make a fundamental change to the way spells calculate the bonus they receive from +healing and +spell damage effects and items. This is because we have seen a growing trend in using “downranking” and large amounts of +healing items, which we feel negatively impacts game balance. Downranking involves high-level players using lower level spell ranks and +healing gear to conserve mana, but maintain a high rate of healing done. Through this method, it has become possible in the live game for healing characters to heal large amounts of damage indefinitely without running out of mana. To maintain progression of use through spell ranks, we are changing how lower ranked spells relate to characters of higher level.

New Combat Rating System
Posted by WolfGrim on Tuesday, October 17 @ 18:59:57 PDT
Blocks From the worldofwar.net site: A handy post from Blizzard today entitled Combat Rating System Explanation:
With the upcoming release of the Burning Crusade, we thought we would take the time to explain more on a new stat that we are introducing: Combat Ratings. These ratings are being used for any combat stat that previously was percentage-based such as: critical strike chance, hit chance, dodge chance and defense skill. Combat ratings are only used with effects generated by items and do not apply to effects that are generated by spells and talents which will continue to work the same

Big Changes to Mods coming
Posted by Wolfgrim on Sunday, October 08 @ 20:39:08 PDT
UI/Mods play an important part in most player's WoW gaming experience and Blizzard has announced the following which will no doubt have an impact on quite afew mods out there.
Hi there, this notification is meant to inform you of some significant changes regarding the way we're handling UI addons. Over the last few years, we've seen a number of awesome, gameplay-enhancing UI mods along with a fair number of UI mods that run counter to our philosophies regarding what addons should and shouldn't be able to do.

Essentially, we don't want UI mods to make combat-sensitive decisions for players and as such, we've made some changes that block functionality that we feel is counter to the spirit of these philosophies. As such, addons and macros will no longer be capable of casting spells or targeting units.

That being said, our programmers have implemented a host of new functionality in order to allow many popular and benign UI mods to continue to function (once those mods are updated to take advantage of the new functionality), and will be providing some follow-up information on these forums as to how to take advantage of the new functionality
